Hiya Aimee

He is correct for now. You can get Internet access on properly
equipped (bluetooth) GSM cell phones and if you have a bluetooth equipped laptop, you can get service... though it is quite slow and at time not reliable. It DOES exist though.

This IS going to change however, and there will be a charge added to the monthly bill. I am not sure it has been firmly set as yet.. but as I recall it will be an extra $7.00 - $10.00 per month for the service.

This is a little off topic but Tim, my nephew tells me that internet on his celular phone is free in CR. Do you know if there is any truth to that? Maybe I misunderstood him. Stranger things have happened.

It is not that Microsoft is big and bad, it is that they simply do not care about their customers.

The current IE browser has not been upgraded in 7-8 YEARS (other than the 10,000 or so security upgrades). It is SLOW and terribly outdated and quite frankly dangerous to use. It is NOT state of the art, does not honor or use the correct HTML codes (instead, arrogantly using their own!) and is generally a high risk product. I KNOW they are big... and 1-2 years for a re-write I could understand, but this several year wait is just inexcusable.

Speed is not an issue if you live in the central valley, but as you leave this area service availability falls off tremendously. If you must live at the beach, better check availability FIRST before you buy or rent.

You are right, this is covered in detail in the ARCR Forums at http://forums.arcr.net in the Technical area as well as in the REAL Costa Rica.

My Friend, Robert Scoble, just left Microsoft. Microsoft is not the big bad evil empire, but since they are so big, it takes time for them to do anything.

So I use Firefox, Outlook, IRC, etc.

I have a XP 64 bit machine, and a Freebsd machine. I was worried about computers, internet and Costa Rica. But since you are here, and 5 or more websites my fears are gone. How is your speed? I have 6M a sec here in San Francisco, and I certainly dont expect that, but some sort of broadbaand would be nice.

Yes I should ask this in the ARCR forum since I am there all time.

also replying here I have black type on a green background which is kind of hard to see, so maybe you could change it a lighter green.

thanks
