Stats ‘N Stuff – Who Reads The REAL Costa Rica?

Stats interest me.
I don’t push advertising on the main web site or Blog, but I do put up a few ads to sort of cover some of the costs. It is always fun, though, to see just who visits The REAL Costa Rica during the month.
The Real Costa Rica gets a bit less than 60,000 new visitors every month making it one of the most popular Costa Rica web sites on the Internet.
Here is a summary of the basic stats!

More Boys or Gurls?
More men than women. This is not too surprising as I think more men visit Costa Rica for various reasons… maybe the nightlife?
Old or Young?
This does surprise me! I would have thought I had more readers in the over 50 category! Only 26%.
Ethnic Mix
Another surprise! Far more Latinos than I would have imagined! I wonder why? Further… how do they know who is Latino and who is not??
Got Kids?
Odd! I would have thought that as the demographics show younger ages, there would be more kids. This sort of indicates I am getting a lot of tourist traffic.
Got $$$?
Absolutely no surprise. Ya gotta have $$$ to live, move or visit Costa Rica.
And finally… Got Education?
Bit higher percentage of college grads (57%
What to do when you are bored?
Stats can be seen in real time too. When I get bored or caught on a long call, I go here. There, I can watch people visit the RCR web site in real time, see where they come from, what browser they are using, and if they used a searh engine… which one they used and what were they searching for!
Now what does all this mean?
Nuttin’! Just me fooling around today.

As I write this I can see myself on the left side of the screen “A visitor from Abu Dhabi”!. I can accept most stats but age?? How can the program guess my age?

Readers trying to inform themselves about CR before they come for a visit or to live here do themselves a big favor by poring over the info that RCR has to offer. It´s not that I revel in exposing the bad things about this country, but the nonstop positive propaganda intended to sell CR is not allowing people to make informed decisions based on a balance of the good, the bad, and the ugly, and CR has all three categories in abundance. I think it`s a great country and has very little if any competition in Central America. The other CA countries are wonderful to visit, but you feel a huge socio-economic chasm between you and the nationals. Costa Rica should be able to withstand a little constructive criticism because if we didn`t care, we would say nothing and just fly away. And I commend Tim for trying to offer up the cold hard facts so that people gain insight into the various dynamics of tico society because things work VERY differently here than in North America or Europe so it´s good to know what you´re getting yourself into. There are a lot of good things to get yourself into, but look (and read) before you leap!

I am a part timer since 2000 when I built a house in Dominical. I follow the site because I want to stay informed. Visiting 4-5 times a year for a week or 2 doesn’t always get me all the facts. My best friends in Escazu are Ticos and the info I get from them have a local slant and are seldom political or legal in nature. I am divorced since 94 but have been in a long term relationship for quite sometime. Kids are grown with families of their own. Well educated and comfortable from good investments in the past.
I go to CR to see the many close friends I have made over the past 10 years. Had planned to retire there but with the 5 grandkids in GA, I may just stay on as a perpetual tourist. 89 days is usually more than enough time and I am ready to head back to see the family. An interesting note here; my girlfriend came with me a few times in 2001-2003 but doesn’t speak Spanish and got bored with the place. Hasn’t been back.

Count me in the statistic of men 18-34. I really appreciate you sharing your site statistics. TRCR was one of the resources I used before coming to Costa Rica myself. I’m a US college grad spending some time living, working, and volunteering in Costa Rica before going to med school. Costa Rica is… an experience.

Wow, 60000 uniques a month is great traffic! Therealcostarica.com offers lots of useful information for people who like to research Costa Rica before they visit. It’s also handy for people like myself who have moved here permanently and are trying to either retire or build a business.
Nice blog you have here with lots of solid research and links. This take a huge amount of effort. Keep up the good work.
As new expats to a Tico village, we appreciate your topical selection & email updates. We remembered to leave our attitudes/ expectations behind, resulting in a terrific experience thus far. Virtually all our neighbors of every stripe have been welcoming; we are conscious of our cultural shortcomings. Your blog took off the rosy glasses & we find that REAL thorns make it all the more vivid. Thanks for the help.

It made me laugh to see that mostly old men visit the site! Not sure if I want to go to Costa Rica now.. haha
Depends on what you are coming here for. Older people wish to retire here so that skews the results. This probably is not a good place for a young person to live, but is just fine for a vacation.
